What type of wood used in portable saunas?

Do they just use the ordinary wood planks in making saunas? Or there’s a special wood available in the market? Are there issues in using ordinary planks?

usually they use ceadar. it tends to hold up better in weather and wet environments. and of course its also salt treated for outdoor use. treated pine works too but pine will swell when exposed to the elements ceadar wont.
Red Cedar or Redwood are the most common types that are used for saunas. Both species have a natural ability to withstand moisture, insects and decay, plus being attractive. Contrary to other comments, all wood, including Cedar, will swell when it gets wet. If you use Pine, be aware that many species of pine have no rot resistance what so ever if they aren’t treated.
If you will check this site, the wood used in these saunas is not the normal 4″ wide planks that are found in most saunas. Their saunas use wood that is approx. 2″ in width. This helps create a tighter more rigid sauna room and retains heat much better. Using these narrow planks also eliminates the cracking you will find in other saunas. When the saunas heat up, the wood can bow, warp and crack on the 4″ planks. The narrow boards that they use will not have any other these issues.
