This is a collection of articles that covers the early history and development of the sauna as well as the methods of construction of a modern sauna, both personal and commercial. Or rather the method, as the book goes into detail with respect to only one type of fabrication. It seems to assume everyone will be using insulated stud construction; I would have liked to have seen more about using log walls for thermal mass.

Although there is a lot of information here, it is presented in an uninviting, dry manner. And anyone without extensive building experience will be lost--this is not a how-to book for the novice. In addition, everything given in this overpriced book can be found for free on the Internet with a little googling. The format is a little over 8 by 6.5 inches, and that is far too small for something with a list price of $40 (or even for the discount offered by Amazon).

It does offer more information on the traditional savuasauna (smoke sauna) than I have seen elsewhere, but I suspect that most people will not be interested in that aspect.

A very difficult read. title misleading, should have been titled "The history of the sauna" Very boring and way to much money.

I bought this book when I was building my own sauna. After paging through the entire book, I could not find any useful information. NOT RECOMMENDED!, if you are building a sauna check out "The Art of Sauna Building" instead. The Art of Sauna Building

The origin of the sauna is in Finland, where its popularity remains quite high. This book, now in its sixth edition, keeps the authentic Finnish sauna available for construction abroad.
